In Term 4 KM and KA have been studying "Things that move". Students have been learning how to identify how objects move depending on a variety of factors. Students have learnt that the size and shape of the object can effect the way an object rolls, slides, spins and bounces. We investigated how toys and other play objects can be made to move. Firstly, we gathered a variety of toys that move and explored the concepts of still/moving and slow/fast. Secondly, we identified the parts of the object that move and the effect of a push or a pull (force) on a toy. Students predicted how a variation in the push/pull makes it go slower and faster and then applied different forces to the same objects to test predictions. As part of their assessment students designed and made their own toy using a variety of recycled materials.
